Does anyone know of any way to automatically display the title of a Google [Doc Sheet Presentation] when embedding them in a Miro board? I try to use Miro to track docs and their relationships as much as I can. But the one thing that often keeps me from doing this is that I can’t tell much about a pasted doc without zooming in on it.

This isn’t as bad with presentations, because the title is usually visible on the first page, but for docs & sheets it’s usually nigh impossible to see the title, if the doc even includes one (which it often doesn’t).

I’ve taken to dropping a bit of text above the doc with the title in it, but this has a few problems:

  • It’s a bit of extra work, which adds up over many docs.
  • The title often gets out of date.
  • You have to remember to grab the title and doc when moving the pair around.
  • Or you have to group them, in which case opening the doc requires an awkward extra click.

I can see that the plugin *has* the title available, because it shows up in the popup whenever you select it. But it would be really helpful to have it just be available (at least optionally) around the rendered doc icon.

Thanks,

Joel

Hi @Joel Webber! Thanks for your great question 😊

I’m afraid that currently the only option to check/chang the title of the embeded documents (Google Docs and Google Slides) is to select it:

The title of Google Sheets is also reflected in the upper left corner and it’s indeed necessary to zoom in to check it as it’s really small:

So I definitely understand how great it could be to have the title available around the rendered doc icon.

Feel free to pitch your great idea to the Wish List! Make sure to describe your use case. More tips are in this helpful guide.”

I hope this is helpful 😉

@Joel Webber - This post reminds me of all of the times I have wished for a feature of a document name persisting on the board (similar to a Frame name), but didn’t take the time to create a Wish List post and did as you have said and just added some a text object above the document and grouped it - e.g.:

A few notes for all readers:

  • I use a text box over a rectangle shape as the font in a text box will adjust when resized.
  • To access the document, i.e., move between pages or download it, you will have to double-click/tap the grouped document/text objects.

@Joel Webber - If you do want to create a Wish List post, let me know here and I will just move this post to the Wish List category for upvoting, rather than your having to create another post.

Thanks, Elizaveta and Robert. That’s pretty much what I figured, and if you think this is sufficient detail and context for a wishlist item, please feel free to go ahead and change the tag.

My hope is that the title is already present in local data when the thumbnail is rendered, so that it wouldn’t require any plumbing to implement; just a rendering change. It doesn’t _look_ like it requires an extra payload from the server to get at the title, but I could be mistaken.
