Conditional formatting in table elements can significantly enhance the user experience by allowing for a more dynamic and interactive display of data. It can be particularly useful in scenarios where data needs to be quickly assessed and acted upon. For instance, in a project management dashboard, conditional formatting can be used to highlight tasks that are behind schedule in red, on schedule in green, and those that are ahead of schedule in blue. This visual cue enables project managers to quickly identify areas that require attention.

Basic Usage Acceptance Criteria:

  1. The feature should allow users to set conditions based on cell content, such as text, dates, or numerical values.
  2. Users should be able to apply formatting styles like font color, cell color, and icons based on the specified conditions.
  3. The conditional formatting should update in real-time as the data in the table changes.
  4. Users should have the option to apply multiple conditions to a single cell or range of cells.
  5. The feature should be compatible with various devices and screen sizes, ensuring a consistent experience across platforms.

Feature Descriptions:

  • Dynamic Cell Formatting: Automatically change the styling of table cells based on the data they contain or based on criteria from another cell.
  • Data Visualization Tools: Utilize color scales, data bars, and icon sets to visually represent and differentiate data, making it easier to analyze.
  • Custom Formulas: Allow advanced users to create their own custom formulas for conditional formatting, providing greater flexibility and control over the data presentation.
  • Preset Templates: Offer a selection of preset conditional formatting templates for common use cases, such as highlighting top/bottom values, identifying duplicates, or marking out-of-range numbers.
  • Interactive Rules Manager: An intuitive interface for creating, editing, and managing conditional formatting rules, complete with previews and easy-to-use controls.

My conditional use case would be to automatically change the color/saturation of an item in a kanban swimlane changing as I move it from To-Do, to In Progress, to Done.

Another use case would be to automatically change the color/saturation of an item in a kanban board based on a due date, or how long it’s been in a swimlane position.

Thanks, Miro.

Adding to this, as it would be a massively helpful improvement. We’re managing extensive backlogs of 6 teams in table view, with multiple custom (colored) fields. It feels like we lose a lot of the overview from the table when shifting to timeline, just by not being able to assign conditional coloring from fields to the timeline.

I’ve seen a couple of official Miro product videos showcasing the table/timeline feature, and highlighting how it’s all color coded, but it feels like a missed opportunity that coloring timeline bars is limited to a manual task.

At least synchronizing to the standard field “Color” in table view would be appreciated, but this also isn’t the case.

Besides this, I love the feature, so fingers crossed!
