As a company admin I have been asked multiple times on how to change the colors on the new dot voting widget. As this is currently not possible I would like to see the option to change the colors implemented in the future.

Was it helpful?

I came to the forum just to ask this question! Is there a way to e.g. reduce the number of dot votes? I only really need three colours (for a red / amber / green style vote) for the board I’m currently working on. So I want to remove a couple of the dot options. Am I missing something obvious! :)

Hi @allcopymel
As far as I know this is not possible until now…
But if we get some more upvotes it might be implemented by Miro :)

Dot vote simplified

While this won’t help the original poster as I did not change the colors, it might be helpful for others who want to limit their options. By smartly covering most of the dot voting gadget, creating a very slim UX is possible. For green/amber/red this is something you can do, @allcopymel.

I covered mine in this example with a sliced .svg, but you can simply cover with Miro shapes too. Just leave the dot free to touch, uncovered. (Way nicer than creating a bunch of circle shapes, old school.)

Yes excellent tip, thank you @Gábor Péter Kertes !

I was wondering earlier about locking some shapes into place to cover up some of the dots. But creating something like you have is also a great option.

Thanks! 😊

My suggestion would be that right clicking a dot vote allows one to change the colors, and that expanding the widget vertically or horizontally creates more / less dots with different colors. The corners can still be used for scale.

Alternatively, having each participant have a default dot vote color, customizable or not, would allow people to vote consistantly with the same color in each part of the project. So instead of grabbing whatever color from the dot vote widget, perhaps it would just be a rainbow dot that would change depending on who grabs it.

The reasons for either approach would be : clarity, time saving, etc.

If there were a way to make it so anything interactable could be a “stack” like stickies, that would also make building various things like a dot voting system very easy to do. In that case you could vote with emoji / stickers / words / etc. I have a rudimentary system where I copy a sticker and add it to part of an organization chart to represent whether someone has been approached, has confirmed, or declined for example. I’d prefer a stack of those stickers since copying and pasting seems genuinely challenging for some users.

Another little example:

Those are dot votes embedded, not simple circle shapes.
