Measure to scale

A measure tool would be immensely useful for users in design professions. Similar to what’s available in some PDF applications such as Adobe Acrobat, measure tools allow establishing a working scale. Within Miro, a frame could be used to set a locally applicable scale where a widget would define a length on the whiteboard and a real world scale. This would also be helpful for page layout mockups.

For example, I might stretch a widget to match a length on an image or pdf pasted into the whiteboard and then set the real world dimension of that length, for example 100ft or 1in. The tool would then allow me to select to additional points to find the relative length and real world dimension.

I’m currently doing a task with a different diagramming tool. I’m using the width and height properties of each element in the diagram to directly get/set the numeric value. This way I can draw “true to scale” diagrams for different purposes (e.g. also for representing effort dimension of work packages, not only spatial values).

As this diagramming tool, that I’m currently using doesn’t allow online collaboration I would like to use miro instead. But miro doesn’t allow the direct access and modification of the internally used width field value of the elements.

Maybe a low effort way of implementing this feature is just to make the internally used values for width and height accessible. This way one can set the desired values. And even “measuring” should be possible by creating a line or rectangle element and read out the width/height values accordingly.

MeasureMint App

Hello!

We’ve put together a tool that solves this, allowing designers to scale and measure on their Miro boards (https://measuremint.app/)
