in reddit: share>embed>copy

in miro: embed iFrame code

“The URL you are trying to submit is invalid”

Hi Graham,

Thank you for the report!

We’ve tried embedding reddit posts using iFrame codes and had no issues at this moment.

Could you please double-check you’re copying the iFrame embed URL specifically, as shown below?

i was not expecting that copied code to work as its not an iframe,

have no idea how make my own and im sure were no supposed to for miro, but tried
<iframe src="https://www.reddit.com/r/redditdev/comments/1y7bco/embedding_reddit_using_iframe_or_alternative/" name="myIFrame" style="border: solid #000000;"></iframe>
None of the attempts i made would make a reddit embed, “open” does nothing
The code copied from google maps works as seen by one of them below, the rest are my failed reddit iframe from scratch attempts

the reddit docs https://publish.reddit.com/assets/Reddit_Embed_Documentation.pdf show this:

but mine has no iframe

thank you Andrew for looking

Hey @Graham Clark ,

This seems very weird, blockquote isn’t an iframe 🙂 Seems to me like the issue is on Reddit’s side? Could you paste the entire blockquote code?

Cheers,
Mettin

Yes blockquote isn’t an iframe, BUT back when reddit wasn’t borken, and I posted this thread, the iframe from reddit also did not work in Miro.

heres’ the paste from above reddit that Andrew went to:

<blockquote class="reddit-embed-bq" style="height:316px" data-embed-height="316">      <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/redditdev/comments/1y7bco/embedding_reddit_using_iframe_or_alternative/">Embedding reddit using iFrame or alternative</a><br> by      <a href="https://www.reddit.com/user/TheChromedKnight">u/TheChromedKnight</a> in      <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/redditdev/">redditdev</a>    </blockquote><script async="" src="https://embed.reddit.com/widgets.js" charset="UTF-8"></script>

Hey @Graham Clark,

I think I see the problem!

In the Miro iframe embed UI, you need to provide a URL, not the embed code!

Let me know if this helps.

Cheers,
Mettin

Hi Mettin, Nope that doesn’t work, and I wouldn’t expect it to. Here’s what happens when you “provide a URL, not the embed code!” for  https://www.reddit.com/r/redditdev/comments/1y7bco/embedding_reddit_using_iframe_or_alternative/

Doesn’t matter whether you use Embed iFrame code or try to past eh URL into Miro.
Reddit links aren’t useful in Miro as I’d have a screen full of completely non-descript visually  and even non-descript textual reddit links.

this is exactly the same as issue as twitter embeds not working in in Miro:

and Twitter links not being useful in Miro:

So I’m going to assume like Twitter, that Reddit cannot be embedded or linked in a useful way in Miro, and that perhaps due to cost of API access that it isn’t provided, and that I need to look at alternative solutions.

Hi @Graham Clark,

Thanks for raising this, and I see what you’re referring to. At the moment, I believe this is a similar situation to the Twitter embed thread you’ve linked. We’re continually working to expand the options we have for embeds and url unfurls—I’m happy to see if there’s anything planned for further expanding the display options for embeds like reddit.

In the meantime, you might also find these details that Robert shared a while back regarding how some links when pasted directly appear with embed previews, while others don’t:
https://community.miro.com/ask-the-community-45/when-you-paste-a-website-in-miro-what-determines-the-information-displayed-3120

Having said all this, you’ve raised a great point regarding support for more embeds, and we’ll do our best to follow up with more details expanding support in the future.

Thanks again!

Thank you for finally seeing the issue and offering a solution.
I was already doing screengrab and link to, webclipper and link to is the same. Will continue with that workaround. as fix, and one day see if the webclipper tool can be combined with the linkto in one step to save time.

Hello Graham,

Thanks for letting us know. Please feel free to reach out if we can be of any other assistance.

Thanks and have a good one.

Cheers,

Mira
