Why are "Sections" only visible when you're in a board?

The new “sections” functionality whereby you can create sub-folders to organise spaces is a step in the right direction but I’ve found the sections are only visible when you’re in a board itself and not when you’re on the company overview homepage - either in the Spaces or when you click on the Space to see what boards are in it. Is there a way to make them visible without having to be in a board?

@Georgia Boyd - This was the intended functionality upon initial launch of Sections.

While I'm not the feature PM (or a Miro employee at all), when the PM mentioned this was the intended functionality "right now", I have to assume that Sections will be available soon from the dashboard too.

Thanks Robert. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my query - makes sense.

Please reconsider this, as it would be very helpful to organize at the Space level. For sections to be more of a viable feature in the actual user experience, We really need to have the ability to see them at the space level. I am actually shocked at how this is currently implemented (at the third level on boards, when it should be more upstream in the UX at the Space level).

  • Preferred ask, Implement at the Space level in the left nav as well, where we really need it. Board level is nice, but Space level is more necessary.
  • Basic ask, allow a group by in the Space main window. The flat list of boards within a space is less than ideal.
  • Minimum ask, add another Section labeled column in the Space list alongside Name, Online users, Owner that we can sort by.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! If you have any more ideas or suggestions on how we can improve the Sections feature or other aspects of the platform, feel free to let us know!

Same here, horrible user experience :  “I am actually shocked at how this is currently implemented (at the third level on boards, when it should be more upstream in the UX at the Space level).”

@Chris_miro A short while back, they took a stab at exposing Sections on the dashboard, but quickly removed the experience and went back to the drawing board.

What they were testing was, when you selected a Space that has Sections in it, left sidebar then switched to the same view you would see if you had opened a board then opened the left sidebar, which IMHO was jarring and discombobulating as I could not quickly change to another Space – instead, you had to click a Home icon to get back to the list of Spaces. I was simply expecting the same tree navigation structure that I am certain most people would be familiar with, e.g., if a Space had Sections, there would be a right chevron or plus symbol that you could expand and collapse.

Hopefully we’ll see another solution shortly.

You really need to fix this. Is there a particular reason they are not called folders? This seems so elementary that one needs to organize and tier folders to hold board instead of this huge list.

When will this be fixed? I can’t for the life of my understand why the intended functionality would be a poor navigation experience *before* you open the board you’re looking for… but then, once you’ve opened it, you can see the Sections. Makes no sense!

What we need is the visibility of Sections within a Space when you click on the Space on the main Boards dashboard. It’s like navigating folders on a computer… it’s been done for decades!

So: on the main dashboard you click a Space. Then rather than a sea of boards, you are presented with the Sections and any boards not within a Section. Then click the Section you want to navigate to to reveal the boards within.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon because the navigation prior to entering a board is pretty shocking!

I just discovered this when organizing a new space I’ve created for a product we are building. But was immediately disappointed when I shared the link to the space and none of the sections were visible in the space itself, but you have to click on a board of that space to see it. Seems almost backwards. Will this be ever considered?
