[UPDATE IN PROGRESS — No ETA] Enter doesn't create new nodes or cards

I’m having an issue where if I’m in a kanban board, type something into a card and press ‘enter’ it makes a new line instead of jumping to add a new card. The same issue also happens with mindmaps, etc. I’ve tried shift+enter and cmd+enter without luck. Any ideas?

@David652 Update from Miro support — the current behaviour is expected, but recognized as inconsistent and will be changed to match the legacy Miro cards/mind maps:

Our responsible product team has confirmed that this is expected behaviour but that it is indeed inconsistent with the behaviour that follows hitting Enter in other tools, like Cards.

They also confirmed that they want to change this and have started the groundwork for it.

At the moment, we cannot share an ETA, however, so for now I will put your ticket on hold and as always we will let you know as we get updates.

@David652 There was an issue a while back with this behaviour of Enter = new line in mind map nodes (see this post).

As of this reply, in Windows 11 in Chrome, pressing enter in a Kanban card makes new lines for me too, but in a mind map a new node is created. And in the old Kanban (now called Columns), which uses the classic Miro cards, pressing enter still creates a new card.

I will report this to the support team and update this post as I hear back.

Thanks @Robert Johnson. I hadn’t checked that but it does indeed work on the old kanban card.
Can you still use shift/ctrl+enter? Just curious, that doesn’t work for me either. Yes please let me know if you hear back.

@David652 Support has reached out to the product teams responsible for these features for clarification. I’ll update this post as I learn more.

@Robert Johnson Thank you so much! Yes it seems like even if enter creates a new line there should at least be a keyboard shortcut (ctrl/shift+enter) to create a new card. Hopefully it’s something that can be fixed easily. Thanks again! :)
