[RESOLVED] Miro no longer allowing board copying - help?

I am on an Educational Plan.

I have made a board (linked below) that I want to allow people to copy to their own accounts.

My settings are already correct (i.e. what used to work)

  • Anyone with the link = Viewer
  • Who can copy board content = Anyone with access.

However, the “Duplicate” button is not working, it is not greyed out, but when clicked results in a yellow pop-up message in the other user’s account that says: “You are on this board as a visitor which gives you view only access”.

I have tested this myself with a free account and just get the yellow pop-up and not my own version of the board.

(I have looked at the help text here https://help.miro.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018350399-How-to-allow-or-restrict-copying-and-exporting-boards-and-content and it doesn’t match the new menu, also as far as I can tell I’ve done everything right so not sure why it’s not working??)

Help?

Thanks in advance,

@Daisy Abbott - There is definitely something going on as the Duplicate action will not work for me for any board that is outside of a team that I am member of, and some boards will not duplicate with the copyBoardId parameter, but some will.

I will open a support ticket and report back here as I learn more.

UPDATE #1: The issue has been escalated to a development team.

HI @Daisy Abbott  and @Robert Johnson
I would appreciate a resolution on this as well. I am on an Education plan as well. I am also not able to follow through on the duplicate function. It is not greyed out as in it is available to click but then nothing happens. I need to add that I am trying to duplicate a board outside of my plan that has open access fo all, into my plan. I am not the originator of the board.

I recently upgraded my MacOS to Sequoia 15.3.1 - I dont know if this broke the duplicate function in Miro. I am using Chrome browser and recently updated Chrome browser too.

For further info, I am on a PC and tried it with both Edge and Chrome.

I am also having this issue on an educational plan. My students are unable to duplicate my board for their assignments.  I have checked settings and have same issue. Help!

@Jason Smith - As a workaround, you could use the copyBoardId URL parameter. Once you the you craft the link, you would simply email it to your students. When they click on the link, it will duplicate your board to their account.

Here’s an example of how it would work

E.g., Miroverse board where the Duplicate button does NOT work: https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVKrCkt2g=/

The board ID is: uXjVKrCkt2g=

1. With this ULR: https://miro.com/app/?copyBoardId=

2. Add the board ID to the end, e.g., https://miro.com/app/?copyBoardId=uXjVKrCkt2g=

If you (or your students) click on that link, it will duplicate the board to your account.

@Robert Johnson That appears to work for the BoardIds that begin with a u, but if they begin with an o, they just open the page with all your existing boards.

Wow – good level of detail, @Butch Adams! I didn’t even get that far.

Miro's board duplication is broken for Educational Plan users. The "Duplicate" button doesn’t work despite correct settings.

Workaround:

Use CopyBoardId:

  1. Extract the Board ID from the URL.
  2. Create a link.
  3. Share it—clicking duplicates the board.

Boards with IDs starting with "u" work, but "o" IDs may not. Issue escalated to Miro’s dev team. Stay tuned for updates!

Regards

Hello!
I cant dublicate other board to my space. I press dublicate but nothing happens. I see it is because of error 404, but din’t know what I’m doing wrong. I am not only one who has the same problem.

@Maxi Ram - I merged your post with this existing one as there is currently a known bug with an engineering team.

The workaround may work, but only if the board ID begins with a or u (if they begin with an o, they just open the page with all your existing boards – there may be other combinations too).

copyBoardId Parameter

As a workaround, you could use the copyBoardId URL parameter.
