I find interesting problem. I can select similar objects in board and add its to new layer. When i move one objects of this layer, all is ok
But when i move some, its return to default layer.
Move 1: Layer not change
Move more than 1: red cube return to default layer

the same problem
Hello, dear Community.
As this is the only way to reach any support from Miro, i reach out again, after having this issue reported last year in autumn, soon after the layers function had been introduced. There was no response. In other cases, Miro support did acknowledge my messages and in two cases the team fixed the bugs that i reported. So i really hope that this message gets through, because this bug is really a dealbreaker for what i am doing with Miro.
Here is the message again:
i started to notices strange behaviour from the Layers function under certain conditions:
Here i do have a Layer called “Canvas”. It contains the following build up:
a transparent frame, having the name on it. This frame is important to be able to export the whole canvas including content as an image or pdf.
a colored shape, just to give the coloured and visible frame
the canvas as an image
then there are several other layers. Relevant for this part of the board is the “Examples” layer which contains pre-existing sticky notes, those that you can see in the screenshot here.
The “default” layer should then contain all the additional sticky notes that users are adding. There: the “examples” layer can be hidden, and then users can add their own sticky notes, within the default layer. That is the plan at least.
What happens instead is the following: Whenever i create a new sticky note, while the “default” layer is selected, and the sticky note is created ON the canvas, then this sticly note gets automatically and inmediatly “pulled” into the canvas layer. Its suddenly in the canvas layer, and the canvas layer is also the selected layer, but without explicitly selecting it.
This only changes, when i delete the transparent frame in the background of the “canvas sandwich” within the canvas layer. Then, sticky notes that are created inside the default or any other layer, stay in that layer and do not get “pulled” into the canvas layer.
Its most defenitly a series of bugs that show up here, also because, when i save the template and then insert it, the behaviour of the layers start to change, also somehow randomly.
Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Of course i could also give the Miro support team access to the board of even a live tour of the bugs.
Best regards, Benjamin
Hi @Tristrong Unit and @Elshan Isayev
Thanks for reporting this! I tried replicating the issue on my end but couldn’t reproduce it. Could you please share a few more details to help us investigate further?
Are you using Miro on a browser, desktop app, or mobile app?
What device and operating system are you using?
Does this issue occur on other boards you own or collaborate on?
Are other users in your team experiencing the same issue on this board?
Could you try duplicating the board (⋮ next to the board's name > "Duplicate") and see if the issue persists in the duplicated board?
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Google Chrome 131.0.6778.265 (64)
PC, Windows 11
All boards
Yes, same. They also use Chrome or Yandex
It doesn change nothing
Tip: Sometimes after deleting layer one or more object of this layer unavailable for interaction until the user refreshes the page.

Thanks for your answer @Eca ! İm using Miro on a browser Chrome. Windows 10, notebook. Yes, same issue in all boards. I ask my friend check it. He have the same trouble. He use Microsoft Edge I duplicated the board as you said and the incident repeated itself.
Hi @DataDriverOlav,
Thank you for sharing the detailed explanation of the issue you're encountering with the Layers feature. I understand how critical this functionality is for your workflows!
While the Miro Community is a great space for discussions and sharing ideas, technical issues like this are best addressed by the Miro Support team directly. I’ve gone ahead and converted your post into a support ticket to ensure the team investigates this thoroughly.
If you have additional insights or updates in the meantime, feel free to share them here.
Thank you @Eca
yeah there are comming up many more issues with the Layers function like:
-- Elements “jumping” from one Layer to another. Even parts of grouped elements jump randomly back to the default layer, after they have been moved or placed into a certain layer.
-- Elements “flicker” and keep standing there, visible, even after a certain layer was selected to be hidden. This also seems to happen randomly. When i then make the layer visible again and then hide it again, then usually the visible element goes back into normal behaviour. This also seems to happen randomly, after hovering over hidden layers in the layers selection menu (but not clicking it).
-- Still, elements change their placement within the layers, and mostly jump back to the default layer, after a template has been created and saved that includes layers. Of course every layer has different elements. But they should of course stay in the layer the supposed to stay in, especially for a template. This also seems to happen at random (of elements jump back to the default layer). -- Sometimes elements just jump to a completly different layer. -- When using layers, the “send to back” or “sent to front” function does not to work properly anymore, or in other words, does not actually send items to the back or front. Not even within their own layer structure. For example:
- I have Layer 1 with 10 Elements, all stacked. I have Layer 2 with 10 Elements, stacked. I have Layer 3 with 2 Elements, stacked.
-→ Now want to sent Element 7 from Layer 1 to the global back. It does sometimes work, and sometimes not. My conclusion: the function is only referencing to its own Layer 1 environment. Nope, unfortunately, even when i expect Element 7 to become Element 1 (the most in the back), within the stacked structure of Layer 1´s 10 Elements, i would expect this to work locally within the Layer. But it does also many many times not work as expected. Rather, it seems to happen randomly.
It really looks like you guys fundamentally have some issues with how the data is stored in the background, maybe there is a logic conflict? I think it really would make sense to look at it, because unfortunaletly this behaviour is really much like a beta-beta-beta.
Thank you a lot anyways for taking the time and i am happy to show more to the support team and really give them a tour, because if those Bugs could be fixed soon, it would improve our days a lot and Miros usefullness.
Best, Benjamin
I made a test board, and when I assigned the objects to layers first, before linking them, they seemed to work fine, I think the issue may have been that I added the layers to a board that already had links and moving the content to the new layers broke the links from the original layer-less board. So, that was helpful to discover.
I also played around with the stickies. I added a couple of frames to the board on the “faciltiator’s layer” and locked that layer. Then I added a sticknote pack to the participant layer. When I moved stickies from the pack to the frames they worked fine, but after clicking away they seemed to automatically transfer to the locked faciltator level of the frame. And the stickynote pack automatically transfered to the default layer. I had to unlock the facilitator level to be able to access those stickies to edit or move them.
The most inconvenient issue is that if stickies that are added in the participant layer, on top of frames locked in the facilitator level, the stickies do not form an attachment to that frame. If I unlock the facilitator level to move the frame the participant layer stickies don’t go with it.
It’s a great start to really useful functionality though!
Hi everyone,
I was able to reproduce the behavior on my end after testing the same steps as what in @Elshan Isayev’s video.
I will convert your comments to support tickets and will tag this thread accordingly.
To avoid confusion, I will go ahead and merge your post with that known bug thread so that the team can investigate this more thoroughly. You'll be able to track updates in that thread, and the development team will have all the context they need to look into the issue.
I'll also make sure to follow up with Support and update you in the thread as soon as I have more information.
In the meantime, if you have any more details or further insights, feel free to share them there!
Thanks for your patience and understanding!
Hi @Theresa Logan,
Thank you for sharing your detailed observations!
I’ve moved your comment to this known bug thread as it explains the same behavior described there. Keeping everything in one place ensures the team has all the context needed.
Let me know if you have any further questions!
In addition, I can say that it would be nice to pay attention to how this should work with grouped objects when fixing the bug. That is, let's say there is an object and object B is attached to it. It would be nice to be able to save object A in layer number 1, and object B in layer number 2. This will allow you to hide parts of the group that are not needed at the moment, but at the same time they will move on the board to the same place as the rest of the group
I found new Bugs,
i am not sure, should i post them here to have it all collected or should i open a new topic?
I am sure they relate to the same underlying issue thats behind all of those layer bugs. Hope they are fixable.
Best regards,
Benjamin
Miro, our team is also experiencing this issue en masse!
It also appears that you recently ‘rolled out’ the layers feature to existing boards or boards that were created since a specified date have it enabled by default. You must pause this feature roll out until this bug is fixed.
This unpredictable layering behaviour has forced the total re-creation of 2 complex boards for us (1000+ items), once during a live facilitation session with guest collaborators trying desperately to use miro whilst everything they write is instantly locked.
I’m excited for layers and think it will revolutionise how we build our boards, but not like this - take the time to get it right please.
For those that need it, our workaround so far has been:
move all content to the default layer
delete all other layers, effectively deactivating the layers feature
remove all frames, replace with white rectangles and send to back
‘layer’ the content as we did before this feature was released with (mac) fn+ up arrow or down arrow
lock assets as needed
Hi everyone,
I wanted to follow up with an update—Miro's development team has now fixed the issue with moving objects added to layers!
If you're still experiencing any unexpected behavior with layers, please try again and let us know if the issue persists. Your feedback and detailed reports were incredibly helpful in identifying and resolving this bug.
Thanks again for your patience, and let me know if you have any further questions or notice anything unusual!
The problem is not solved. Had the very same issue yesterday. Shapes moving to the default layer on their own, despite being drawn in other layers. Also - “Move to layer” function is simply not working.
I am experiencing a similar issue - assets from an upper layer are disappearing behind a lower layer - or disappearing off the board altogether - if the item in the lower layer is moved (or selected. even when locked). This has created a large issue for me with data loss as I also am not able to undo this action and restore the board.
Layers seems pretty unusable to me in its current state.
I have the same issue. I have items (lines) that I keep moving to the Default layer, yet every time I come back to the board they have been moved to another layer (always the same layer). This has happened twice today.
I am experiencing objects changing layers and layers changing order without prompting. Sometimes I’m moving a different object and another object jumps to another layer and disappears. Layers would be really helpful but every time I have tried… it makes it worse. Just recently in trying to fix it… I lost have my board and cannot seem to recover the objects
Hi @Mario Miličević @Michael Acosta @Doddmj @Laura Machado,
Thanks for reporting this! I have your comments converted into a support ticket so the team is aware of this and can reopen the investigation on this issue. One of our supports will reach out soon!
