Private mode does not hide the "created by" and "last modified by" information.
I have a board with some questions that the Team should rate on a Likert scale from 1 to 5.
I want to use the Miro “Dot voting” tool. I will start in "private mode" so that no one can see who voted for what.
I noticed that the dots people drag and drop from the dot voting contain "created by" and "last modified by" information. This indicates that the "private mode" is not functioning as intended.
My question is: Am I doing something incorrectly? Is the private mode not meant to function with dot voting? Is this a bug
Thank you very much in advance for any assistance and responses.

Hi @Stefan Knoblich thanks for your detailed question!
Just to clarify — when you mention “created by” and “last modified by,” are you referring to the metadata shown in the board itself (e.g., when hovering over a dot), or in the dashboard view?
If it’s within the board during Dot Voting in private mode, the behavior you described isn’t expected — votes in private mode should be anonymous, and metadata like "created by" shouldn't be visible to others.
Could you please share a screenshot or short video of what you're seeing? That would really help me try to replicate the issue on my end and investigate further.
Thanks again for raising this — I’ll be happy to look into it with you!
Hello @Eca,
Thank you very much for your response.
I am using a Miro board, where I have enabled private mode and chosen the option “Make names anonymous” → “Turn on Private mode for all”.
Next, I will use "Dot voting" with my colleagues.
Once my colleagues finished voting, I disabled private mode. When I click on one of the dots that my colleagues dragged and dropped on the board, then select the three small dots in the menu and choose the “Info” option, I can see the actual names of my colleagues. I had expected it to show as “anonymous,” similar to how it appears on sticky notes.
On Friday, I was testing this with another colleague. We attempted to add the Dot voting tool to the board after enabling private mode, but it still did not make any difference.
Many thanks for your help! If you need more information, I am happy to provide them.
Have a nice start into the week!
Stefan
@Stefan Knoblich The key point here is that it is only content on – and perhaps more appropriately described as “in” – sticky notes is obscured by using Private Mode.
So, even if you put a voting dot “on” a sticky note, its data is not obscured (adding a dot to a sticky is essentially “grouping it” with the sticky, so it moves with the sticky).
However, you raise a valid point – perhaps they should be obscured too.
If you do create a Wish List Idea post, I would also recommend that you post a link to it back here, so that future readers of this post can quickly get to and vote for your Idea.
Workaround
Have your users use smaller sticky notes as voting dots. You could use sticky stacks to do accomplish this.
Hello @Robert Johnson
Many thanks for your reply. I will create a Wish List Idea Post and proceed as you suggested.
