Hello Everyone,

As my title explains, I would like to move all my boards (in bulk, as there are many of them) from my old Education account (previous school) to my new Education account (new school).

I have managed to do it one by one by downloading a board back up which I then upload to my new Educational account (via Create New and Import) but this will take me way too long if I proceed this way.

Is there a way to do this to all the boards in one go?

I hope I can find a way to do this before I lose access to my old boards.

Many thanks.

@Anuyni First, let’s talk about your account type. Is this new Education Plan one that you applied for on your own, or are you using a Miro subscription provided to you by your new school?

I ask because, if it’s the former, and you were the only person using the account, you should be able to just change your old Education Plan’s email address to your new school’s email address.

However, if other people are using the old Education Plan (or you were not the owner/Team Admin in the first place) then, yes, you’ll need to move boards. And, while you cannot bulk move the boards, there are easier ways than downloading and restoring backups, e.g., you can duplicate the boards while signed in as your new account. I’ll wait for you to respond to my first question.

Thank you for your reply @Robert Johnson

I am the sole owner (and only user) of my accounts, but I now have several boards on my new Ed account and I would like to import/gather all my old boards in this new Ed account.

Is there a way to do this in bulk?

@Anuyni Thanks for clarifying.

Is there a way to do this in bulk?

Unfortunately, no.

Here’s what I would do in your situation…

Start a spreadsheet of boards you will transfer. For each one:

  1. Open the board’s sharing settings and
    1. Set the Public/Access/Anyone with the link to → Viewer
    2. Use the Copy board link action to copy the board link to your clipboard and paste it into the spreadsheet in column A
    3. Open the Sharing settings
    4. and make sure that Who can copy board content is set to Anyone with the board access.

Once you have done this for all board, they can now be opened from any Miro account, e.g., your new Miro account, and duplicated to your new account.

To duplicate a boards, sign in as your new account and:

  1. open the board
  2. from the main menu, select Board → Duplicate
  3. If your new profile is a member of more than one team, you may be prompted as to where you would like to save the copy of the board - otherwise it will just be saved in your new team/Education Plan.
  4. Optional: To keep track of which boards you have duplicated over, you may want to use column B of your spreadsheet, e.g., “Duplicated” = Yes/No.

Once you are all done and satisfied that you have duplicated all boards to your new account, another optional step is to delete all boards in your old account.

And by duplicating, I can edit those boards in my new Miro Ed account, right?

I guess I just need to try for one and see. I’ll try that tonight.

Thank you very much for your help Robert.🙏🏼

@Anuyni

And by duplicating, I can edit those boards in my new Miro Ed account, right?

Correct. You would be the owner of the newly duplicated board, just as you were as the old account and the original boards.

Another possible option, and I feel kind of silly for not mentioning this from the start, is that you could:

1. Add your old account as a member of your new team.

2. Then, while signed in as your old account, you could move the boards to the new team.

3. And once you have moved all the boards, sign in as your new account and remove your old account from the team, at which point you will be asked "who should be the new owner of the users content?", at which point you would select your new account/email address from the list.

You could try this out by creating a board called "test board to move", move it, and then sign in as your new account and remove the old account (so you can test the process in the steps above).

If everything looks good (i.e., the "test board to move" is in the new team and your new account is the board owner), then you could add your old account again as a team member and move all boards.
