Question

How to remove a team admin who no longer belongs to the company.

Hello, I have a free Miro account.

I have a team board, where the team admin has been away from the company for some time.

I can't transfer it to someone else, and it doesn't make sense for this person to be associated with a company project they no longer belong to.

How can I remove or transfer it to someone else?

Thank you for your help!

Hi @RSS thanks for reaching out!

Since the board is owned by a former team admin, you won’t be able to transfer it directly from your account. In this case, the recommended approach is:

  1. Contact your IT Department – ask if they can grant access to the former admin’s company email.

  2. Recover the admin account – once you have access to that email, you can reset the Miro password and sign in as the former admin.

  3. Transfer ownership – log in as the recovered admin and transfer the board to an active team member.

This ensures the board remains secure while giving your team proper access.

If gaining access to the email isn’t possible, please let me know so I can connect you with supports.

@RSS A few other options:

  1. Duplicate the board — You will now be the owner of the newly created/duplicated board and can move it. Then you’ll likely want to rename the original board (e.g., “DO NOT USE”).
  2. Create a new Free Team — You could:
    1. create a new team using another email address
    2. add your current address as a member and then promote to Team Admin
    3. move your boards to the new team
    4. add any other members to the new team
    5. direct the members to move their boards to the new team
    6. promote one or more other team members to Team Admin, so there are at least two of you.
