new to miro and i couldn’t find an exact answer to my question in the discussions.

is it possible to extend a shape in one swimlane across multiple swimlanes?

If a process step is the same for multiple roles and occurs at the same time in a process, i notate that action by extending a shape across multiple swimlanes with a single description. as opposed to creating multiple shapes in multiple swimlanes with the same process description and connecting them.

when i try to extend across swimlanes in miro the swimlane expands once the shape hits the swimlane border. it doesnt cross over the original swimlane into the next swimlane.

this functionality is default in MS Visio and i think you had to change a setting in order to lock within a swimlane.

thanks for the help.

@C.F. - It would seem that, no, you cannot drag the shape over the swimlane - trying to do so results in the swimlane growing in height.

I was able though to move the shape (not resizing it) over the lanes.

I would suggest using the Send feedback mechanism to share this feedback with the product team  they do monitor feedback submitted there!

thanks @Robert Johnson. that’s actually a feasible workaround. if i drag the shape across the border of two or more swimlanes it does stay in that location. I will use this method but i will also send feedback as you indicated. thanks for the quick response. have a good day

@Robert Johnson and @C.F. -

There is something weird going on with swimlanes and shapes. See below - I was able to extend two shapes to span two swimlanes, but when I added the second shape, the first moved down into the bottom swimlane and forced it to expand. I had to them manually move it back to span both.

This one might require a Mironeer to investigate…
