Exporting an image or vector with transparent background

Hi all,

I am trying to export an image, but I can see the grey background in my mind map. Is there a way to export with a transparent background or white? Even exporting with PDF I can see the background grey

I tried to use other programs to remove background, but that affected the quality of the image.

Was it helpful?

Select all the objects you want to export, then click the 3 dots for those selected objects and choose “Copy as Image”. You should get a .png that respects transparent backgrounds in our objects.

Hi! It sounds like the grey background in your mind map is being embedded into the exported file. To help you better, could you let me know which software you're using to create the mind map? The export options vary between tools like XMind, MindMeister, FreeMind, or others.

In general, here are some common solutions depending on the tool:

1. Check Export Settings

Look for these options when exporting:

  • Background color: Set it to white or transparent (if supported).

  • File format: Use PNG if you want transparency, or PDF with a white background.

2. Change the Canvas Background Color

Before exporting:

  • Go to the View or Theme settings.

  • Change the canvas or background color to white.

3. Export as SVG or PNG with Transparency

Some apps let you export as SVG or PNG with alpha transparency. This retains quality and transparency:

  • In tools like XMind, use File > Export > PNG > Transparent background.

4. Use a Vector Graphics Editor (like Inkscape or Illustrator)

If you export as SVG, you can open the file in Inkscape or Illustrator and:

  • Delete or change the background manually.

  • Export again as PNG or PDF with transparency or a white background.
