Edit custom fields of User Cards

Hello,
simply put: there is a user card preset. I expected to be able to edit the custom fields (rename, add, delete, the works), but it seems like I either can’t access those features or they arent present.

Here is whats interesting: there is a organigram preset built on those User Cards and it has one additional custom field already baked in, but adding new User Cards will have the normal categories. Obviously there seems to be a way to edit the custom fields somewhere, I would just like to know how to access it.

Was it helpful?

Hi @Benjamin Wuske ,

Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you’re trying to customize the fields on User Cards, which can be really useful for organizing information.

To help you better, could you clarify if you’re working with a specific template or a custom board? Also, are you trying to edit these fields in the Miro app or through another integration? A short video demonstrating this could be really helpful.

Any additional details you can share will help us point you in the right direction!

Looking forward to your response.

I am specifically talking about these Cards:

This is how they show up after inserting them

The custom fields in the second image is what I am specifically hoping to edit. Right now you can check and uncheck them, but I cant find a way to add, delete, rename exisiting ones.

This picture is of a preset, that also uses these fields. This is what makes me hopeful that there would be a way to manually edit the custom fields, since it seems to be theoretically possible on the other end.

If you could point me in the right direction, I would be very thankful.

Hi @Benjamin Wuske and @beccataylor  ,

Thanks for your interest in customizing User Cards! At the moment, the ability to edit custom fields on User Cards, such as renaming or adding new fields, isn’t available. However, we truly value your feedback and are always looking to improve.

You can help us prioritize this feature by upvoting and commenting on this wishlist thread. The more support it gets, the higher the chances our team will consider it for future updates.

We appreciate your input and encourage you to share how this feature could benefit your workflow. Your suggestions can really make a difference!

Workaround

You can build a CSV file with the needed columns and import it in the standard template.
This will give you the possibility to add/rename the custom fields for this diagram.

Try to export the default CSV to get an idea of the correct structure.

Hi @Markus Klik,

Thank you for sharing this workaround! Using a CSV import is a great way to customize the fields and tailor them to your specific needs.

If you or others have additional tips for optimizing this process, feel free to share them here. I’m sure many users will appreciate the insight!

Thanks again for contributing to the discussion! 😊

Hi @Markus Klik, can you demo or screenshot how you do this? Does this work for cards used in the sprint planning templates?

Thanks

Hi @capo di tutti capi , this works for the user card inside the org chart template.

When selecting the chart you will see the Import CSV button where you also can download a CVS template. The template is easy to adapt ad after reimporting you have the fields from the CSV available.

With this template

Name;Work Email;Job Title;Manager Email Address;Custom Field 1;Custom Field 2
Jake Smith;jake.smith@miro.com;CEO;;aaa;bbb
John Doe;john.doe@miro.com;Head of Revenue;jake.smith@miro.com;ccc;ddd
Jane McDonald;jane.mcdonald@miro.com;Solutions Engineer;john.doe@miro.com;eee;fff

you will get this import

What a pain. I feel like I often get 90% of what I need in Miro, then it’s missing the other 10%. This seems like a perfect example of that.

Miro is incredibly inflexible. Not able to change fields included in a people card? I can’t think of any other creative software with that kind of arbitrary limitation. Miro costs so much of my time trying to use it, only to realize that, as unlikely as it sounds, it is actually impossible.

Hi @intrepidpursuit, I really hear your frustration — it’s definitely not ideal when you hit a limitation that impacts your workflow. The current restrictions around editing fields on User Cards can feel like a real blocker.

As a partial workaround, some folks have had success using the CSV import option available in the org chart template — that lets you customize field names and values before bringing them into Miro. If that’s something you haven’t tried yet, check out Markus’ earlier comment in this thread for a quick example. It doesn’t replace full field editing, but it can help structure the cards more flexibly for some use cases.
