hi there, ive been using a board to share excel files for quite some time. They used to load as a snap shot of the sheet, and you could click on the icon and download the file.  Just what i was after.

Now when i drag and drop a excel file into the board, it shares its as a editable table, which I'm not after.

Can someone advise how to get back to the simple file that can be clicked on to download please as the editable table isn't what I'm after

Hi @scott bartlett, thanks for sharing this!

It sounds like you're seeing Miro's newer behavior where Excel files are automatically rendered as editable tables when uploaded. This is part of an update that allows users to interact with spreadsheet data directly on the board.

If you'd prefer the previous behavior where the file appears as an icon you can click to download, here's a quick workaround: you can compress the file into a .zip before uploading — Miro won’t try to render it and will instead treat it as a downloadable file.

Hope this helps!

hi @Eca thanks for the feedback.

I have just tried the zip file, drag and drop way you mentioned but it mentions the following.

it doesn't seem to allow ZIP file to draged and dropped?

Any other ideas?

Thanks for the advice @Eca  anyway :-)

I have the same problem, please fix the issue, the .zip is not supported as well. Add the feature of downloading the excel original file. dont convert it to miro table format

While the having the ability to convert to a Miro table is great, we will still need an option to drop the Excel/CSV file (preferably not compressed to a .zip) on a board without it converting to a table.

Hi everyone, quick update on this!

Miro Support has confirmed in Scott’s ticket that the recent behavior change — where Excel files are automatically rendered as editable Miro Tables when dragged and dropped — is part of a new update to improve in-board data visualization.

However, the good news is that the team has heard the feedback and is already working on:

  • Bringing back the option to upload Excel files as clickable/downloadable icons (like before), and

  • Adding a new option to upload Excel files as a Grid, giving more flexibility based on your needs.

There's no ETA just yet, but updates will be shared once the options roll out.
