Hi everyone

I have the Starter plan subscription and I'd like to know if I can create a community board for networking, as shown in the video. I would be very grateful for your help. Thank you so much.

Hi @Pascal Stertsos

Well, it’s a long video and I did not see the whole thing.

I am not the super expert with the Miro license model . . . but as long as you can create a board, change the status to “Edit” - and copy a link and send it out to other people - then you’ll have a board that can be edited by (lots of) other people.

Is that the main thing you’re trying to do - or are you after some feature in particular?

Cheers, Ken

Hi Ken @Kenneth Ritley

Thank you so much for your reply.

I'm looking for a way to, firstly, to add an unlimited number of people to a board using my package, and secondly, I'm also looking for a networking corner where everyone can create their profile.

I think both would be great for my work.

I'd be very grateful for any further answers.

Best regards,

Pascal

@Pascal Stertsos

I'm looking for a way to, firstly, to add an unlimited number of people to a board using my package,

As a Starter Plan subscriber, you would use the Visitors/public/Anyone with the link feature to put the board into a state where, as the board sharing setting states, “Anyone with the link” can access it — this is called the Visitors feature. More on this here:

https://help.miro.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012524559-Collaboration-with-Visitors

and secondly, I'm also looking for a networking corner where everyone can create their profile.

A simple flow here could be:

  1. Create a frame and add some objects for visitors to add their details (e.g., the Team Player Card from the Miroverse, or just sticky notes). You could also trying searching the Miroverse for ice breakers or team building for other ideas.
  2. Set the start view of the board to this frame (or any other location with instructions for your visitors).

@Pascal Stertsos  Robert’s got some great ideas. What I use all the time is this:

https://miro.com/templates/character-mix-and-match-icebreaker/

Your guests can literally create their own avatar by selecting hair, hat, face, glasses, body, etc. Can be a lot of fun.

BUT . . . more importantly . . . people who are new to Miro require a bit of time to get used to it. In the worse case, if you don’t give them this time and force them into activities that require Miro-skills, it may leave a not-so-nice impression with them. Thankfully Miro is intuitive and easy to learn - but it does take that bit of time.

So . . . I recommend in your planning that you give them some extra time in an activity like this, so they get used to working with Miro, learn where the controls are, how to use the mouse to move around, etc.  Maybe ask them to fill out some sticky notes about themselves, etc.  You could even have a gamification exercise (I always like SNEKAM - check out Manager Tools for details).

When I teach and have students new to Miro, I create a Miro board for practicing and I let them practice and play before the real teaching starts.

Have fun!

PS. Another thought: LOCKING is your friend. If you have board content you do NOT want to see moved around, LOCK it.  Reason: beginners new to Miro WILL find a way to take anything and everything that is not locked down and . . . shrink it / move it / delete it / recolor it / you-name-it it.
