After responding to a number of posts over the years related to “missing boards” or “I am the owner of the board but am being asked to request access to it”, I decided to put together this post in order to share it with future posters in the Community to help them understand why this may have happened, and how to hopefully get their board(s) back.

NOTE: This post is a work-in-progress!

Why did this happen?

Here is a very common scenario:

  1. Someone creates a free Miro account, which creates a Free Plan team of which they are the owner/Team Admin.
  2. They invite someone else (e.g., you) to try Miro by collaborating on one of their boards, which makes that person a full member of their Miro Free Plan team.
  3. Now that this new team member has a Miro account and is a part of a team, they create one or more boards, which results in the team being over the 3-editable boards limit, causing everyone else’s boards to become VIEW-ONLY.
  4. So, a Team Admin starts deleting people from the team. When they do this, several things happen:
    1. The previous board owner loses access to the board as boards are linked to the team in which they were created (unless, of course, the board owner was a member of another team and first moved the boards to the over team – an action that only board owners can do).
    2. And, when a user is removed to the only team space they were a member of, Miro detects that the user is no longer a member of any team and prompts them to create a new team.

If you are having trouble finding a link to the board after you have already accessed it, you could try searching your browser history for: miro.com oNAME OF BOARD]”.

If you cannot find the link there, or you can but cannot access the board, continue reading.

If you had previously generated and sent a Team Invite link to someone (by using the Copy team invite link action), and if the feature is still enabled for the team,  if you used the Copy team invite link, then you should in theory be able to use that same link to automatically be added back to the team:

If you do get added back to any old teams, and it is a Free Plan team, then you could duplicate any board in that team, and then move the duplicate to your own team space.

Recovering the the board you created

The only way you are going to recover this board, even if you have the link, is by a member of the team where the board still resides to take one of a number of actions:

  1. Add you back to the team and transfer ownership of the board to you – since they deleted you, this is not a likely option.
  2. (and the the simpler option) Find the board and
    1. set the board’s Visitors access to Anyone with the link → Cab view
    2. send you a link to the board
    3. And then you copy the board to your new account by opening it, clicking on the board title/name, and then using the Duplicate action button.

Finding out which team you were previously on

Before you can do any of the above steps, you need to find out which team you used to be on. If you know someone else on that team, reach out to them and explain what has happened and that you need either the owner of the team or any experienced team member (preferably who has the Team Admin role on that team) to help you – for context/instructions, you could even share this post with them.

If you don’t recall how you because a member of this team, try searching your emails for things like:

  • miro.com
  • has invited you to edit on a board in Miro ← this is the text that is received when someone invites you to a board in a Free Plan team.

Other things to check

Make sure

  1. You are on the correct workspace dashboard
  2. You are viewing boards in that space
  3. your dashboard view is set to view all boards

Best of luck!

Добрый день. А если в панеле слева вместо твоего аккаунта высвечиваются два аккаунта, я так понимаю это команды, а твоего нет. Что делать?

У меня пропали все доски, огромное количество.

@Muslim - If the boards you are missing were not owned by you or were not in a team that you were a member of, then you will no longer see them anywhere in your Miro dashboard. More on this here:

Another place to look is to check of you are a member of any other team spaces. You can check for this by selecting the team space dropdown at the top left of your dashboard:
