Is attendance at one of the workshops really a requirement? :(
Two of them start at 3am for me and the other at 1am, so that’ll be a No from me.

Hey @Paul Snedden , not a requirement, it is also mentioned in the post : “You can then submit your brand new icebreaker template for a chance to win a prize. (if you feel confident with your template creation skills- no need to attend one or more of the workshops- but it’ll be fun.)” 😊

It is for those who want to join but feel they need some training :)

I’ll highlight that part 😎

Looking forward to see what you create!

  1. Watch the GIF 📺 – Watch the gif inside the template for quick and easy explanation, it covers 99% of what needed to be done

  2. Draw a graph 📈 – Ask participants to draw a graph on a timeline how do they feel the last sprint / iteration went. What was the hottest or coldest moment, where they felt like a shower rain, or when it was a sunshine.

  3. Write your name 📝 – At the end of your graph write your name on the sticky note

  4. Spice Up your graph 🌶️️ – Use stickers to highlight some important moments of the sprint / iteration

  5. Explain your graph 🗣️️ – Ask each participant to briefly explain the graph and use the explanation for potential further discussion

  1. Choose your design🤔 – Select one of the four provided designs for you to clone aka copy/paste.
    • all designs assumes the centre is more hot / appealing / strongly agree area and outside is more cold / off-putting /strongly disagree areawrite participants names in design 2 & 4 to make a nice constellation. Modify the amount of lines according to your needs, add more or remove existing on
    • Designs 3 & 4 are more suitable for Colour Accessibility
    • Draw a graph 📈 – Ask participants to draw a graph on a timeline how do they feel the last sprint / iteration went. What was the hottest or coldest moment, where they felt like a shower rain, or when it was a sunshine.
  2. Write a tittle ✍️ – Write a tittle for your frame. For better visibility you can duplicate it in the header of the frame. It could be a statement or question. Something that people can relate to. Duplicate the frame as many times as many questions/statements you have.
  3. Create your avatar🎭 – Ask participants to create own avatar. It could be anything: Emoji, Sticker, Icon, Photo, Drawing, Compilation of multiple things, even the simple shape like star. Below is just an example. After avatar is created - ask them to write own name under sticker below it.
  4. Place avatar on radar🧭 – Ask each participant to drag their avatar to the appropriate area on the radar/map to form a constellation

0. Ask participants to choose a board and to add their names to the sticky in the top left corner.

1. Give everyone a moment to pick something they love. This can be an object, a person/pet or an activity.

2. Give everyone 5 minutes to create a mosaic representation of the thing they love.

Building Metaphors:

Pick a station and start building!

This icebreaker helps to unlock creativity by using simple shapes to create a visual answer to the question.

It also helps the participants think in metaphors. Metaphors are powerful shortcuts to instant and memorable understanding. They evoke vivid images and allow us to "see" things from a new perspective, and are useful tools for creative problem-solving.

So:

  • Pick a question
  • Remove the box to reveal the blocks
  • Build
  • Listen to each other's explanation
  • Reflect
  • Clean up!

Hi Miro Creators,

Meme Battle is a fun, hilarious, competitive, and chaotic game that allows participants to be free to express their feeling and what engage with their life stories and recent experience.

When to use the Meme Battle?

The Meme can be utilized for two main purposes the facilitation:Retrospective-driven purposeIcebreaker gameIt very depends on your creativity in creating the challenge for each round.

How to conduct Meme Battle?

Meme Battle template is designed to be easily modified in the Battle Arena to serve both purpose.

Retrospective Format

Here are the steps for conducting Retrospective format:

  1. Explain the Retrospective purpose and Meme Template. Clearly define what this retrospective is used for and how you want to summarize the insight from the meme battle progress.

  2. Show how to do it in Battle Arena. Create the meme from the template to give context for the retrospective you can give prompt questions for each round to lead to retrospective principles: what is worked, what didn’t work & What could be improved for example.

  3. Give participants time to reflect and ask questions. Accommodate participants to overview the result from each other memes, you can ask to vote to be shortlisted for your team insights. Give time and space for participants to ask questions as well in Burning Question section to listen to new ideas for improvement.

Icebreaker Game Format

Here are the steps for conducting Icebreaker Game format:

  1. Explain the Icebreaker activity purpose and Meme Template. Give time for participants to explore for awhile on how to participate in the game.

  2. Show how to do it in Battle Arena. First, hide all the challenges within the Battle Arena and set a time for each round for 5-10 minutes to create the meme from the template based on the given challenge.

  3. Let participants inspire each other and compete. The key is giving the opportunity to be free to express, and letting the participants create the meme based on their experience or daily life contexts which will help drive great engagement.

  4. Give space to overview and cool down time. After increasing tense and heat for the meme battle competition, try to give space to highlight the prominent memes as triggers to grab attention. Then cold down time by putting burning questions for facilitator or to the meme creators as complimentary.

Enjoy the Memes! 🤡

@Helena Brandist we have a crazy set of MIRO top notched CONTENT CREATORS here 😍 Good luck for judging :)

Name: Mirjam Leunissen
Role: Self-employed facilitator & trainer

Board:

PURPOSE:
The 'Seeing the forest for the trees' board serves as a visual tool for exploration and connection with the entire group at the beginning of a meeting, using the metaphor of individual trees (the participants) together constituting a diverse forest. It sparks reflection & conversation and leverages the diversity of the group, revealing what would otherwise remain hidden - a picture is worth a thousand words!

What do we (not) have in common? What are the strengths / weaknesses of our individual trees and do we form a healthy forest together? What might be missing in our forest?

The board connects directly to the shared purpose of the meeting for which the characteristics of the forest are relevant and thus leads naturally into other activities and conversations.

Group: 6 - 18 people that are on a shared journey (e.g. in professional development or a project), but may not know each other very well yet.

Duration: 15 minutes

FEATURES:
- the board supports less experienced Miro-users with pre-made drag & drop elements and the user only needs to access the default color palette
- within the limitations of the default color palette the contrast has been optimised to support users with a color vision deficiency
- the board is designed for common laptop screen sizes, optimising legibility while maintaining the overview (and thus limiting the need to zoom in & out)
- the layout follows the default scroll direction for easy navigation

FACILITATOR INSTRUCTIONS

Before the meeting:

Decide what information you want to visually encode in the tree ring profiles and what axes you use to sort the profiles. Change the labels on the board if needed.

The example shown is for a group of facilitators from the NeverDoneBefore community, visually encoding:

🌳 How many years experience do you have as a facilitator?
🌳 Are you self-employed or do you work for an organisation?
🌳 What area do you primarily work in these days?
🌳 Do you work mostly online, in-person or roughly 50/50?
🌳 How many certifications in facilitation do you have?
🌳 In how many professional communities are you currently active?

During the meeting:

1) Start at the first field and invite participants to duplicate & drag the tree ring image that reflects their situation to the second field on the board.

2) Reveal step-by-step the visual encoding guide at the bottom of the second field and demonstrate the editing steps, letting participants customise their tree rings.

3) Invite participants to move their customised tree rings to the final field, positioning them along the horizontal & vertical scales, so as to reflect their situation.

4) Now it's time to start seeing the forest for the trees! Invite a group conversation by highlighting aspects that stand out and by inviting additional observations. For example:

🌳 Are the trees healthy?
What aspects of our trees serve / inhibit us? (e.g. certifications)

🌳 Do we form a healthy forest together?
How might our similarities / differences support us?
What might be missing in our forest? (e.g. specific expertise)

5) From here you can take it into further conversation and activities connected to the shared purpose of the meeting for which the characteristics of the forest are relevant.
