Board items can be exported: but we need the connections to go with them!

Users can currently get board items (nodes) as a basic .csv list. This is a good start, but equally important are the connections (edges) between board items (nodes).

 

Add .csv export of object connections Parent; Child; Label Text].

We do a lot of simple network and concept mapping with clients, and in house - we love Miro as a user friendly tool for this, but our efforts are rendered useless when we can’t extract info about connections. We are forced to manually recreate this data.

We would like to develop a workflow from Miro, through data sanitisation (excel/python) to our graph database and analytics tools. Right now, the barrier to this is Miro’s lack of connection export.

 

Export options for Miro remain a weak point.

We would also like to have the Connection Lines be exportable to CSV/excel/sheets so as to retain relations between the Texts within Shapes that each Connection Line connects. We would also like to have the arrow configuration on each Connection Line be retained as a relation, ie. there are 3 unique categories of arrows: ‘linked’ (no arrows on a Connection Line), ‘directional’ (one arrow, which indicates a causal relation between the Text), and ‘bidirectional’ (arrows on both sides that indicate a mutual causality). 

We would like the export format to have a structure of columns wherein, if the Connection Line indicates ‘linked’ or ‘bidirectional’, then the two Texts will appear arbitrarily in column A and C with the ‘linked’ or ‘bidirectional’ indicator in column B. And secondly, if the Connection Line indicates ‘directional’ then the Text from which the arrow originates in placed in Column A, and the Text to which the arrow arrives is placed in Column C, and ‘directional’ is placed in column B in the middle.

Of course the nomenclature of ‘linked, directional, bidirectional’ is arbitrary. But the ability to export Connection Lines to structure relations between pieces of Text is crucial to our work. Its absence requires the need for other tools currently.

Zooming out, this kind of feature set would allow Miro to capture many new users who have technical graphing requirements, but who also work closely with non- or less-technical clients who benefit from the ease and intuition of working with Miro. 

Perhaps the sub-feature would include 1) being able to export Connection Lines, and 2) making it possible to label the Connection Lines as a component of what it exports.
