I would like to show duration for a process using a number/duration line, like below:

However, the best I can get is:
Aligning and straightening the lines are next to impossible (and sometimes very unruly in their creation and orientation when not attached to objects).
Possible, but unsatisfying, solutions:
I can use other line terminators (like filled circles), but they are not as universally understood/clear as line terminators for indicating time.
