Resize imported drawing objects with change of aspect ratio

I and colleagues/clients need to manipulate geometric shapes and specialised objects (such as technical drawings of equipment) which the range of Miro’s on-board shapes currently doesn’t and some cases never would support. Currently such objects copied into a board can be resized and rotated but only at their original aspect ratio. For optimum use we’d want to flexibly resize these objects withn Miro, rather than having to resort to another application to to the stretching.

This needs upvoted!

aspect ratio is locked on things like NounProject and Icon images - That’s plain daft

Maintainig AR is a nice extra but a dumb constraint

Yeah this, especially when already having way more advanced tools like image crop and rotate and the ability to instantly and hassle-free paste multiple independent images directly into the browser (!!!!),   i find it very hard to believe that there is no non-proportional scaling by dragging the edges of the image yet.

This would synergize perfectly and complete this basic image manipulation toolset that would save so much time by avoiding constant external editing and reuploading just to stretch an image by a few pixels to perhaps align something, do some crude lookdev iteration, manually fix aspect ratio in images that were imported skewed, freely resize custom image backgrounds/textures, do custom frame designs via bitmaps, resize and rotate custom bitmap symbols and arrows.. thats just some random usage ideas for non-uniform scaling that would save loads of time and focus

I just looked for a way to change aspect ration for almost 30 minutes.

Not having this feature feels awkward and made me question my intuition, because this action is considered basic functionality in every drawing tool. After googling I found this rfe instead of a documentation on how to do it.

I’d love to have this feature some day.

Nothing wrong with your intuition Michael! Thanks for the support.

So I’m using the one of the Product Roadmap samples.  Looks easy enough

Nice little hint pointing to a block:
This is a shape. When selected, you can make it longer or shorter by dragging on its sides.

What it doesnt say is that shape height will grow/shrink as you change length.
The simplest way to edit a roadmap is to move the template pieces around and resize.  But that’s not possible.
Weird

I upvoted this. Struggling to resize my imported objects to fit my needs.  Should not have to maintain aspect ratio if I don’t want to.

Agreed!  Very unintuitive not to have this.

Are there some technical limitations why this is so low priority and hasnt been addressed yet?  Ive seen minimum of 5 threads asking for this for over a year at this point.

literally just need simple non-proportional scaling of pasted images via dragging the image’s side edges like it is with some other inbuilt objects already, and keep proportional scaling via the corner handles, that translates easily into touch devices aswell

Would love this feature - makes a huge difference when trying to design things.

This is now possible for shapes where the default behaviour seems to be dragging the edges and to keep the proportions fixed you can select object, hold shift whilst dragging the edges. Doesn’t seem to work for icons/images though.

It’s super cool that Miro supports Apple Pencil (change from eraser to pen with tabbing) to enable designers to use Miro for wireframing, but not being able to distort a simple shape is really annoying.

I’m taking the image out into Excel and stretching there.  Would prefer to do it all in Miro!

boggles my mind that this is still not addressed after 3years of these threads popping up and getting decent support.  isnt it literally just about adding one extra descriptor entry for the image objects? and then its just a display thing, no additional pixel data need to be stored on your servers no additional burden... come on

Why on earth are we still talking about this years later? It’s such an obvious feature that limits a key use case of Miro. If you can do it Paint you must be able to do it Miro!

Still impossible to do today.

I juste created a custom PNG on my side to get a particular arrow type for my design. I can’t resize its length without making it larger…

Let’s go Miro you can do it! 😁

This would be such an essential feature.

So the original request was 2 years ago and still this is not implemented.   I guess this is a classical example of designing by developer.  Who cares about the user experience.

+1 need this by default should be able to change ratio and ctrl or shift to keep

I can’t believe there is no way to do it.

c’mon MIRO … this is a basic image manipulation functionality requested years ago!

My company just transitioned to using Miro and today is the first day I’m checking the program out. One of the first things I did was try to paste an image and then scale it without aspect ratio (something I do constantly when making presentations), only to find that it’s not possible to do? What is up with that??? I’ve never encountered a program that lacks such basic functionality, and it definitely doesn’t make me feel good to see so many threads like this. Doesn’t bode well for the rest of the program!

Honestly quite surprised to find this thread and see that this feature is missing!
