Export Mind Map as Hierarchy in CSV

Currently, when exporting a Mind Map to CSV, Miro generates a flat list. I want to export my Mind Map as a hierchy so that I can load the data into a spreadsheet or Word doc to make other notations or edits.

Here’s an example.

My simple Mind Map:

Exports to CSV as a Flat list, even worse, there doesn’t seem to be an order to the items in the list.

I want Miro to export my Mind Map as a table that shows the hierarchy of the map, as shown below:

Previously I meant Kumu (not Kuru) has both export and import capabilities, keeping the hierarchy. I will look at xmind too.

Hi all - almost there I think. If it doesn’t get pushed through this week i will investigate releasing an intall link here.

Sorry to keep you all waiting

If anyone fancies early access I can email them an install link.

I need to be able to export mind maps as document outlines, translating the hierarchy of nodes to H1, H2, H3 structure, for example

I love miro but what other programs are you using that has a similar function to miro so I can actually use my mind maps?

You might be interested in looking at MindManager from MindJet. I have been using it for many years and have not found anything close to it. Many years ago, I implemented my GTD System (Getting Things Done, book on stress free productivity by David Allen) in MindManager.

It’s extremely paramount that this feature is developed

This too https://community.miro.com/wish-list-32/mind-map-switch-to-hierarchy-ordered-unordered-list-of-items-7619

Throwing in my support for this as a feature. This should be basic as it is the only way to meaningfully share the contents with non-Miro users. On a related note - we should be able to directly copy/paste to Powerpoint, Export directly to Word as an outline, Export to MS Project.

This is functionality that is available in other Mind Maps (e.g. Mind Manager). Not having good export capability severely limits the usefulness of the tool. It has cost me hours of retyping or reformatting into an outline format.

I wholeheartedly agree. As it is, the “export to csv” function is practically useless.

This is absolutely critical. Competitors will not only let you export to Word, .rtf, or other useful formats, but you can even view the outline when using the tool, which is helpful when a board starts to get a little bigger. It’s been a year since this was requested. Is there an update?

Until/if Miro adds this as a standard feature, here is an alternative for exporting a mind map to CSV, including its hierarchy.

Hi all,

I have built an app for this feature.
See demo:

I hope to release it through Miro’s app marketplace. Will this solve the problem? Feedback welcome!

Gavin

Ha Gavin,

I notices the problem with wrong characters coding (ISO-8859 probably). Could you add/change default coding to UTF-8 to be compatible with multilingual environments?

Despite this, it is a great future, nice work thanks.

Hi. I have a similar problem - but in another context. In creating an capability map I wanted to know in my export what lives in what box.

So we created a plugin for that to. https://www.milkyway.international/milky-way-tool

Hey Miro

We have strategically sensitive information in our Miro boards, so we can’t use a third party developer app that needs access to our boards. And while I realize that this is what is needed to get the job done, we can’t trust an external party with this data unless there’s some way to verify that the developer is unable to access our data?

Can this be verified?

@Chris Parker - I have wondered this myself. Are there any mechanisms in place to ensure that 3rd party apps are not storing board data? (Or is it even possible to detect and stop them from doing so?)

Hey @Robert Johnson - unfortunately at this time we don’t have anything in place to monitor/discern this. We’re exploring plans for Security programs that will highlight such things, but for the time being the best thing to do is engage with the developer of the app directly to learn more.

In this specific case I had a quick look at the requests made by the Mindmap downloader app and I can see it does indeed send a POST of the entirety of the board’s content back to home.

Great App!

Can the same be done in the reverse direction?

So, say we’re using a big Corporate ERP, and updating the Mind Map in Excel, and wish the Map to update in Miro, so we can then take a picture of it, for Management Meetings?

That would be an amazing feature. We tend to work in Excel a lot, because we’re working across Product Management and Finance, and Finance are more comfortable in Excel.

Cheers,

ST

Please implement this feature to export a mind map with a structure. Xmind has it and it’s really helpful when moving a mind map into a different format. I’d prefer being able to copy the mind map into a simple indented list. It would be great to allow it to be copied into an excel sheet too.

That’s the number one feature improvement I’d like from Miro.
