I keep the frames bar open to use for navigation, but i have discovered that the GIFs that I use will not play their full duration (and therefore also not loop) when i have the frames sidebar open?!?
If I close the frames side bar they work as expected.

Surely this is not intentional and is therefore a software bug.
I noticed this only happens when the following two conditions are true:
