I am conducting a workshop and want to be able to move sticky notes into the shape (a square), then move the shape and the sticky notes that are in the shape to another place. When I try to do it, the shape moves, but all the sticky notes and text stay behind.
Can’ I “lock” them in place so they become one object that I can move? Or should I be using a frame?

You should be able to just group the square and the associated sticky notes. Select all of these objects and then use Ctrl-G or the group icon from the pop-up toolbar to group them.
