Ability to add webp image file types to boards

Was seeing support for the file type, but its been dropped, and needs to be supported. Will be leaving Miro as a result of this lack of support

I agree with everyone else, please add support for webp images!

Please consider adding WebP support. As more web content shifts toward WebP and WebM formats, the lack of support is causing increasing issues when using your service. While GIFs have served well in the past, they are outdated, heavy, and no longer efficient for modern web use.

This is an essential feature. Upvoted and hope it gets prioritized.

This is becoming increasingly frustrating to the point of us seriously having to look for other tools that can do the job. Webp support should be a given at this stage.

Also, there is no replacement for Miro, even though the webp support is extremely lame.

HACK / WORK-AROUND

This works for ANYWHERE you see the image, not just a browser. File type is irrelevant. If you can see it, you can bring it in!

• View the image in any way (browser / Photoshop / Explorer / etc)
• Use the Windows key ⊞ + SHIFT + S (This is the system ‘snipping tool’)
• Go to your Miro Board
• CTRL + V to paste it. 
• It will be in a random location and size, but it’e easy to move and re-size.
• This is the fastest way.

Lol, I was Miro user for whole 1.5min until I found out that it lacks basic feature I need. Nice... It’s shame that such big company cannot figure out such old format (it is old in 2025). Let’s be honest - nobody is working on it, because there is nothing to work on really. And now I have to look for Miro alternative :/

You can copy WebP images directly from a website and paste them into Miro, it will convert them to .png

You can’t download them to your PC and then upload to Miro without converting them yourself first.

Don’t drag and drop, it works 50% of the time, other times you get the not supported error. Copying image and Ctrl + V over Miro board has worked 100% of the time for me.

When new features arrive, they appear on the change log. Sometimes, if they are highly requested Wish List items, we will try to find old Wish List threads and announce them there.

I checked the link you provided and it is a very thorough, if not entirely backwards-focused look at changes made.

There is no mention of .WEBP file compatibilty nor any hint at when it might appear to our great shock and amazement.

I guess your advice was ‘check back every week’ and ‘don’t hold breath.’ 

QUESTION > if this feature appeared in Miro tomorrow, is there any way I would perceive it as being avaialable?

This thread goes back two frickin’ years! When you post, ‘we’re looking into it,’ it does not come across as sincere.

Even if Miro said, ‘IT will NEVER HAPPEN, you loser,’ it would at least be more definitive than what we currently have.

• WebP images can have several advantages over other image formats, including:

• Supports transparent PNGs and GIF animations.

I can’t understand why this not implemented yet, Miro would be the perfect tool for moodboarding and making presentation. Without webp  (one of the most current prominent image formats) its not. What a shame!

Undeniably yes it would be a huge time saver, especially considering Chat GPT only exports images in .webp.

This feature would be very helpful for creating mood boards.

so many images we need to drag and drop from websites are .webp

Yes. It has to be done in no time.

Considering webp is quickly becoming the default file format of the web and is designed to perform better with less size, I can’t believe this is even an issue. 

hoping we can paste webp in the future but in the meantime theres a  way to get webp into Miro in a few seconds. All you need is the default Paint software that comes installed.

Copy your .webp image

Paste in Paint

Now click the image with the Select tool selected (make sure the Select box tool is selected on the top toolbar). Then click ctrl+a to make sure the whole image is selected. Then press ctrl+c copy. Go to your Miro board and, click and paste by ctrl+v. make sure you dont have another image already selected in Miro or it will overwrite it (which you can undo by ctrl+z)

It has been over a year now and WEBP is now the most common file type for images on the internet.

How is it that you STILL do not have support for this in 2023 ??  It’s downright embarrassing.

I’m pretty much prepared at this point to switch to literally any competitor that offers WEBP support, even if their service is worse.
